WHO WE ARE

The purpose of Mountain View Baptist Church is to provide “a place for you to love God through worship, grow people spiritually in a small group, serve people in a ministry, and reach people for Christ.” Our vision is for all members to participate in each of these four purposes every week.

WHAT TO EXPECT

We know that going to a new place can be a little intimidating.  Our friendly greeters will help you find your way to our worship center, a Sunday School class, children’s classes, or even the nursery.  Don’t worry about fitting in. As a fairly young congregation with guests who join us each week, we simply enjoy having you worship with us.

We are a body of believers from all walks of life seeking to worship and connect with God through a blended style of worship.  Each week we will use a mix of hymns and contemporary praise choruses to create an atmosphere of worship that will allow everyone to move towards a spirit of worship as we seek to corporately praise our great God.  This corporate worship time is followed by a message based on the uncompromised Word of God.

what we believe

GOD
We believe there is one living and true God, who is the creator, preserver, redeemer and ruler of the universe. He is infinitely perfect in every way and eternally exists as three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit (in a relationship known as the Trinity). We believe these three are one God and each possesses fully the nature, attributes and perfections of Deity.

JESUS CHRIST
We believe Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary; a miraculous process by which He received a human body and a sinless human nature. He is fully God and fully human in one person. We believe He lived a sinless life of perfect obedience to the law of God. Through His death on the cross, He made provision for the salvation of sinful people. We believe He was raised from the dead with a glorified body, ascended into heaven where He rules over the universe, prays for His people and will one day return visibly to earth.

HOLY SPIRIT
We believe that the Holy Spirit comes to live in those who trust Jesus Christ as Savior. The Holy Spirit acts in many ways including the giving of spiritual gifts, empowering the life of every believer, revealing spiritual truth, convicting of sin and drawing the lost to Jesus Christ. We also believe the Holy Spirit inspired the Scriptures and fuels the mission of the church. The Holy Spirit empowers believers to overcome the power of sin and transforms them into the likeness of Jesus Christ.

Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12; 1 Corinthians 12:7; Galatians 5:16; Ephesians 5:18
THE BIBLE
We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are God's revelation of Himself to mankind. They were written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. The result is that Scripture is God's Word and entirely true and without error in the original writings. The Bible is the final authority in all we believe and practice. We further believe that the focus of all Scripture is the person and work of Jesus Christ.

MAN
We believe that God created mankind in His own image and for His glory as the crowning work of His creation. However, man sinned against God and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death, which is separation from God. This spiritual death has been transmitted to the entire human race (except for Jesus Christ). As a result, every person is born into the world with a sinful nature, disobedient and is under His condemnation.

SALVATION
We believe the Gospel of Grace that those who turn from their sin and trust in Jesus Christ as their Savior become spiritually new people. They are declared not guilty for their sin and receive the gift of eternal life. This salvation is acquired through faith alone, apart from any good or religious works. Salvation is based entirely on the death of Jesus Christ on the cross, as their substitute. We believe that Jesus Christ's resurrection demonstrated God's full acceptance of His death as payment for sin, and it foreshadows the final resurrection of all believers.

PERSERVERENCE
We believe the Holy Spirit comes to live in those who are saved by faith in Jesus Christ. As Christians live in obedience to God, the Holy Spirit empowers them to gradually overcome the power of sin becoming more like Jesus Christ. We believe those who are truly saved will be protected by God's power and steadfastly continue in their Christian life until the end.

CHURCH
We believe in the one, universal Church made up of all who have trusted Jesus Christ. He is the Head of the Church, which is His body. We also believe in the local church, which is an autonomous, local congregation of baptized believers. The Church gathers for worship, spiritual growth, service and to reach people for Jesus Christ. In addition, the Church observes the ordinances of baptism and the Lord's Supper. The local church operates under the Lordship of Jesus Christ through the priesthood of the believer. Members serve the body using the spiritual gifts given to him or her by the Holy Spirit, resulting in maturity, unity and glory to God.

Matthew 16:16-19; Matthew 22:37-39; Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:41-47; Acts 6:3-6; Acts 20:28; Ephesians 1:22-23; Ephesians 2:19-22; Ephesians 4:11-16; Colossians 3:12-17; 1 Peter 2:9
BAPTISM & LORD'S SUPPER
We believe Biblical baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Believer's baptism is an act of obedience to Jesus Christ's command symbolizing the believer's faith in a crucified, buried and risen Savior. The believer's death to sin, the burial of the old life and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Jesus Christ is a testimony to his faith in the final resurrection of the dead. Being a church ordinance, believer's baptism is a prerequisite to the privileges of church membership and to the Lord's Supper. The Lord's Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby members of the church, through partaking of the bread and the fruit of the vine, memorialize the death of Jesus Christ and anticipate His second coming.

FAMILY
We believe marriage is a model of Jesus Christ's relationship with the Church, and the relationship between husband and wife should reflect the covenant relationship of Jesus Christ and the Church. The husband and wife are of equal worth before God, since both are created in God's image. We believe the word "marriage" means only a biblical union between one man and one woman as husband and wife. The word "spouse" refers only to a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or wife. Marriages outside of these parameters will not be performed by the Senior Pastor or Ministers on or off of church property. We believe that Children are a blessing from God and life begins at the moment of conception.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
We believe church and state should be separate. The state owes every church protection and full freedom in the pursuit of its spiritual ends. No religious group or denomination should be favored by the state more than others. Since civil government is ordained of God, it is the duty of Christians to remain obedient in all things not contrary to the revealed will of God. The state has no right to impose penalties for religious opinions of any kind. The state has no right to impose taxes for the support of any form of religion.

LAST THINGS
We believe at God's appointed time, Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly to the earth and establish His kingdom. We believe in the bodily resurrection of believers and unbelievers. At the final judgment, unbelievers will be separated forever from God in hell, a place of everlasting punishment because of their rejection of Jesus Christ. Believers, in their resurrected bodies, will live in God's glorious presence as they worship and serve Him forever.
