The Role: Senior Pastor
Meet Mountain View Baptist Church
Mountain View Baptist Church is prayerfully seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Pastor to lead our multigenerational church. The Senior Pastor will be responsible for shepherding and leading our church body, preaching Bible-based sermons, casting vision in fulfillment of the church’s mission, and developing discipleship strategies that cultivate spiritual growth and outreach.
MVBC is focused on each member being involved in following the mandates of the Great Commandments and Great Commission by loving God through worship, growing people spiritually, serving people in a ministry, and reaching people for Christ. We function as a pastor-led, deacon-served body with final congregational approval.
MVBC has strong children’s, youth, music, and adult discipleship programs that minister to our body and community. One of our passions is to support local and international missions financially and with multiple yearly mission trips. We enjoy fellowship with each other and encourage members to participate in small groups where they can grow in a biblical community.
Role of the Senior Pastor:
The Pastor serves many roles, including that of Shepherd and Teacher. In addition, the Pastor serves as Chief Administrative Officer of the church under the authority of the congregation and in consultation with other designated leadership and appropriate committees. The Senior Pastor's primary role is to faithfully preach God's Word, supervise and hire ministerial and support staff, and to care for the members of MVBC.
Biblical Qualifications:
1 Timothy 3: 1-7, Titus: 1: 5-9, and 1 Peter: 5: 1-5 outline the qualities that a Pastor should possess if he is to be effective in leading the church. Using the Scripture as our guide, these are the characteristics we seek for our next pastor.
Education & Experience:
- Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university
- Masters Level required, Doctorate degree or actively working toward that degree preferred
- Minimum of 5 years as Senior Pastor of a Southern Baptist Church experiencing worship attendance above 300
Vision and Passions:
- Has a passion for expository preaching
- Has a desire to promote church unity throughout the congregation
- Has a desire to see numerical growth in the church by reaching out to the surrounding community through various ministries of the church and by his personal involvement in the lives of people within his sphere of influence
- Has a passion for growing the church by baptizing new believers
- Establishes a vision for the church staff that encourages cohesiveness and a purpose-driven, coordinated effort to constantly strengthen the ministry
- Develops focused ministry plans each year and casts the vision for discipleship plans to the church
- Has a passion for studying God’s word
- Pursues both spiritual and physical renewal in his own life
- Supports the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, NC Baptist State Convention, and our local Baptist Association
